(October 19, 2011) More than 250 members are expected to take part in the National
Conference of the Council of Catholic Women of India (CCWI) to be held from November
11-13 in Kerala, South India. “The Emerging Indian Woman” is the theme for the three-day
triennial National Conference to be held at Ashirbhavan in Ernakulam, Chinnamma Jacob
National President CCWI said. She said objectives of the conference include “creating
awareness about issues on the emergence of women in various spheres of life and motivating
them to become agents of change in society”. The chief guest will be Uttaranchal
Governor, Margaret Alva, who is also one of the founder members of Council of Catholic
Women in the Archdiocese of Delhi. She will also deliver the inaugural address.
Archbishop Francis Kallarackal of Verapoly will be the guest of honour. The valedictory
address will be delivered by K M Mani, state finance minister. Established in 1964,
the CCWI aims at helping women especially those poor and marginalized to get into
the national mainstream.
