Today the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation is marking World Food
Day with a celebration at their Rome Headquarters. October 17 is also the first day
of the 37th session of the UN Committee on World Food Security at FAO headquarters. Also
celebrating the occasion will be the International Fund for Agricultural Development
(IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) Among those who will be attending ceremonies
today is Archbishop Luigi Travaglino, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to
FAO who will read a message from Pope Benedict XVI.
Senior Fellow for Global
Agriculture and Food Policy at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs Roger Thurow
is speaking at the conference in Rome to commemorate the day.
