Pope Benedict XVI received the President of the Republic of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo
Sosa on Thursday at the Vatican. A statement from the Press Office of the Holy See
says the Pope and the President had a cordial round of talks in which their conversation
touched on the great contribution that the Church offers to the development of the
country, especially in education and health care.
The statement goes on to
say The Holy Father and President Lobo discussed the importance of continuing to promote
reconciliation and mutual understanding, solidarity and peace, in Honduras, in the
tenacious pursuit of the common good. The statement also notes that they discussed
the calm that has returned to Honduras’ international relations recently, as well
as several topics concerning the world situation. Following his meeting with the Holy
Father, The Honduran president met with the Cardinal Secretary of State, Tarcisio
Bertone, who was accompanied by the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States,
Archbishop Dominique Mamberti.
