September 14th is the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross or
the Triumph of the Cross. Like many other liturgical feasts, this feast had its origin
in Jerusalem and is linked with the commemoration of the finding of the wood of Christ’s
cross. It’s an important feast, especially for Eastern Christians, whether Catholic
or Orthodox. But exactly when and why did the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross
come into existence and what is its meaning? To find out more Susy Hodges spoke
to Father Joseph Kramer, a parish priest based in Rome of the priestly fraternity
