Libyan government forces and rebel troops are battling for control of the strategic
refinery town of Zawiyah, which supplies crucial oil and gas to the capital. Rebels
hope to seize control of the town as they advance towards Tripoli, which remains a
Gaddafi stronghold. Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has come under increasing pressure
from the opposition and NATO air strikes, and many international observers say his

to unfreeze a portion of Libya’s assets and give the funds to the World Health Organization. WHO
spokesman Tarik Jasarevic says the 100 million euros will help buy urgently-needed
medical supplies for Libyan civilians. “The stocks of essential supplies are really
running short. Supplies like vaccines, like insulin, like chemotherapy drugs, like
laboratory consumables, like HIV drugs, like medicines for non-communicable diseases.
