A peep into Pope Benedicts activities during vacation at Castelgandolfo
(August 13.2011) We know hardly anything of what transpires in Castelgandolfo while
Pope Benedict XVI prays, studies and prepares for the World Youth day in Madrid.
But we hear that he permitted himself a late afternoon excursion Thursday in top
secret to a nearby village Church in Rosciolo di Magliano dei Marsi province of
Aquila to the north east of Rome. The splendid little Church is of Benedictine origin
of the 11th century. Accompanying the pope was his brother Georg, his
personal secretary and another priest of his staff. Only the 89 year old parish priest.
Don Vincenzo Angeloni knew but could not breathe a word to anybody. After visiting
the Church and praying vespers of St Chiara, whose feast fell that day, the Pope
sped back to be at Castelgandolfo by 8,30 p.m. In the morning of Saturday, the Pope
had no doubt a relaxed meeting with four German bishops Archbishop Robert Zollitsch,
of Freiburg im Breisgau , President of the German Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Reinhard
Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising and Bishops Franz-Josef Hermann Bode of Osnabruck.
and Franz-Josef Overbeck of Essen.
