Thousands of Somalis fleeing famine in their own country are continuing to arrive
at refugee camps in Kenya. More than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa are in
need of immediate food aid, including nearly half the Somali population.
“We’ve
had more than 70 thousand Somali’s arrive and that’s in a camp that was already severely
overcrowded”, says Ron Redmond, UNHCR Regional spokeperson for East and the Horn of
Africa, who is based at the world’s biggest refugee camp at Dadaab in Kenya.
He
also told Lydia O’Kane that they have been given permission to extend the camp to
cope with the influx of refugees. Listen
