(August, 06, 2011) The Vatican has published Saturday some interviews with leading
personalities on the forthcoming World Youth Day (WYD) to be held in Madrid, Spain
from 16th to 21st August. Thus Cardinal Cañizares Llovera,
prefect of the Congregation for Divine worship and for the practice of the Sacraments,
sees the WYD as an occasion for youth to decide to reverse the trend of the Old Continent
of Europe to turn away from Christ. Don Maurizio Mirilli, Coordinator of youth apostolate
in the diocese of Rome has informed that 7000 participants will be leaving for Madrid
from Rome; they are curious about the New Evangelisation launched by Pope John Paul
II. And they have taken to heart the call of Pope Benedict XVI to be rooted and founded
in the faith, to be witnesses within their peer group. Fr Julian Carron President
of communion and liberation, sees the WYD as occasion to manifest the reasonableness
of faith. For Spain this is a splendid opportunity to re-discover its Christian
roots. The financial director of the WYD, Fernando Giménez Barrioconal, makes it clear
that no public funds have been asked for the WYD. So it will cost the tax-payer not
a cent. Besides no one need pay money to see the Pope he remarks.
