Bishop Emeritus of Amaravati and Bishop of Jowai, Meghalaya Pass Away
(August 01, 2011) The Catholic Bishops Conference of India announced the death of
two Bishops. The First Bishop of Amravati Diocese, Mgr. Joseph Albert Rosario MSFS,
passed away on Sunday at Amaravati, at the age of 97. Born in 1915 and ordained priest
in 1944, he was appointed as the first Bishop of the newly erected Diocese of Amaravati
near Nagpur, Central India on 8th May 1955. He retired from active service
in 1995 at the age of 80. The funeral service is to be held at Amaravati on the 2nd
of August. Bishop Vincent Kympat of Jowai Diocese, Meghalaya passed away at 3.00
pm on 30th July 2011 following a massive heart attack. He was sixty five. The Funeral
Mass was celebrated at Bishop’s House, Jowai on the 1st of August, 2011 at 12.00 noon.
His Mortal remains were taken to St. Theresa’s Church Jowai for the burial. Bishop
Vincent was born on December 17, 1946. He was ordained priest on 23rd January 1977
and was ordained Bishop of Jowai on the 2nd April, 2006.
