Texas man executed, despite pleas for clemency from victim
A Texas inmate was executed on Wednesday evening for killing a Dallas-area convenience
store clerk during a shooting spree against people of South Asian descent after the
September 11th attacks. Mark Stroman had been in and out of jail his entire
life, and was associated with the Aryan Brotherhood, a white supremacist gang.
He
was convicted of the murder of Vasudev Patel, who was from India. Days earlier, he
had also killed Pakistani Waqar Hasan. The lone survivor, Rais Bhuiyan, unsuccessfully
sued to stop the execution, saying his religious beliefs as a Muslim told him to forgive
Stroman.
