He leaps out of nowhere, stands eye ball to eye ball with Ahab and defends the God-given
identity of Israel.
He's Elijah, the Prophet who could both listen to the
voice of God as well as call down the fire. And eventually, at the end of a rather
long and stormy career, the Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn Mark Coleridge goes
on to say, he's carried up to heaven on a chariot of fire .
Furthermore the
tradition, our Australian Archbishop and Scripture Scholar adds, is that this first
great Prophet never died and would one day return...
