The United States is withholding $800 million of military aid to Pakistan, including
equipment, financial aid and reimbursements. US officials have expressed frustration
over the degree to which Pakistan is willing to crack down on militant groups. Pakistan
has cancelled the visas of more than 100 US Special Operations trainers, intelligence
agents and equipment technicians. Bilateral tensions have significantly increased
since the US located and killed Osama bin Laden inside a fortified compound less than
a mile from Pakistan’s national military academy. The government of Pakistan maintains
that the raid was a violation of the nation's sovereignty and is angered by the lack
of intelligence cooperation.
