Pope Visits Exhibit Honouring Blessed John Paul II

(July 07, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday toured an exhibit honouring his predecessor, Blessed John Paul II, at the Vatican. The special exhibit, housed in the Charlemagne Wing of the colonnade in St. Peter’s Square, includes items commemorating the life of the late Pontiff from his childhood through his pontificate. The Vatican had opened a special exhibit on the life of Pope John Paul II on April 29, just two days before the late Pope’s beatification. The formal opening of the exhibit on 29th of April saw the official release of stamps struck to commemorate the beatification. These stamps have been a joint product of the Vatican and Polish postal systems. The exhibition, organized by the Governorate of the Vatican City State in collaboration with the Polish Embassy to the Holy See and the Polish Culture and Heritage Ministry, is divided into 15 sections illustrating the life and pontificate of Karol Wojtyla, from his infancy and childhood in Wadowice to the last stage of his life and solemn funeral on 8 April 2005. With a wealth of detail it presents all the moments and aspects of the life of the newly beatified pope. Present during the exhibit's inaugural ceremony on 29th of April were Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, and other dignitaries from the Vatican City State and Polish Embassy.
