Pope BENEDICT XVI visits L'Osservatore Romano office
July 05, 2011: Pope BENEDICT XVI visited on Tuesday the Vatican’s newspaper L'Osservatore
Romano on the occasion of its 150th anniversary this year.
Appreciating the
great works done by the newspaper, Pope Benedict said ‘Through your daily work, you
give life to this unique medium that is at the service of the ministry of the Successor
of Peter, to bring a specific contribution to spreading the Gospel and witness to
the truth.’
In fact, spreading the teachings of the Pope, informing about its
activities and that of the Roman Curia, and reporting on Catholic life in the world,
L'Osservatore Romano helps the faithful to consider the problems in the light of the
Word of Christ and the Magisterium the Church and with constant attention to the signs
of the times – commented the Pope on the newspaper of the Holy See.
While
respecting the duty of information, the Pope felt, L'Osservatore Romano - almost unique
in the panorama of the world press - offers readers many positive and encouraging
news, often overlooked by the Press.
Pope Benedict XVI reminded them not to
forget that, in order to fulfill the mission entrusted to them, they must ensure adequate
technical and professional training, but above all it is necessary always to cultivate
within you a spirit of prayer, service and faithful adherence to the teachings of
Christ and His Church.”
