Pope’s blessing for Ireland’s Eucharistic Congress
(July 01, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI sent his "warm and prayerful best wishes” and gave
his blessing to the nearly 13,000 pilgrims who attended the National Eucharistic Congress
of Ireland last weekend at the Marian Shrine in Knock. Vatican Secretary of State,
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, sent a letter on behalf of the Pope to Irish Cardinal Sean
Brady, Archbishop of Armagh, saying the Holy Father, was "spiritually united to all
who … offer adoration, thanksgiving and praise to the living God for the saving sacrifice
of Christ on the Cross." He stated that with "the frequent and worthy reception
of the Bread of Life," he was confident that the faithful would be led down a path
of "conversion, in truth, justice and charity." In addition to a Mass with an anointing
of the sick, activities over the weekend also included a series of workshops hosted
by organisers of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress scheduled
from June 10-17 next year.
