World Council of Churches’ message for Pentecost
(June 07, 2011) The World Council of Churches - WCC released a message for the
Feast of Pentecost next Sunday (June 12) saying "The celebration of Pentecost, offers
every ecclesial community and each and everyone, a new opportunity to live in a
Eucharistic and a very holy manner the coming of the Holy Spirit". Signed by various
religious leaders the message was published on the WCC website on Monday. The message
exhorts everyone to renew their confidence in the power of the Spirit and to pray
more fervently, so as to renew the Church, giving it a new breath and the strength
to become in the suffering world of today, the martyrs of the cross and witnesses
for justice, peace and hope. " The WCC message stressed that that the Spirit reveals
Christ to men as Lord and Saviour. It said the Holy Spirit pursues the saving work
of Christ in time and space with its divine energy, in ways often incomprehensible
to the human spirit. Finally, the message recalls that the power that the disciples
received on Pentecost with the coming of the Holy Spirit was given for the transmission
of the Gospel of salvation to the whole earth, and it calls on all to continue the
work of transforming the world begun by Christ.
