(June 01, 2011) Mary really believed that nothing is impossible with God and strengthened
by faith she let herself be guided by the Holy Spirit in total obedience to God’s
plans, said Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday, to a large number of faithful who had
met to recite the Rosary at Vatican’s grotto. Expressing his joy to be able to join
them in evening prayers for the conclusion of the Marian month of May, and reminding
them that it was also the Feast of the Visitation of Mary, the Pope said “Let us
pray that God give us strong faith that Mary had, so we too can give a generous
and unconditional response to God’s plans, even when we are called to embrace the
cross.” Pope Benedict thanked Cardinal Angelo Comastri, Archpriest of the St.
Peter’s Basilica and many cardinals, priests, nuns and faithful who had gathered
at the grotto on the last day of May to pray to the Mother of God. He reminded them
that the month of May had also begun well with the May 1st beatification
of Pope John Paul II , whose life is a great grace for the whole Church, and whose
dedicated life spurs us to be true disciples of Christ
