(May 28, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI met on Saturday members of the men’s branch of the
Marian sodality, of Regensburg, the city where the Pope had once been a professor
of theology. He recalled how he himself at the age of 14 had become a sodalist and
learnt devotion to the Mother of God.. After wishing them on the occasion of the 70th
anniversary of the foundation of the Regensburg Sodality, the Pope reminded his listeners
that as the Jesuit founders of the Sodality movement had taught, the spirit of the
Marian Sodality meant not only working for one’s personal holiness, but also constantly
promoting the sanctification of one’s neighbour.
