Surveying prices of basic needs for families in Zambia and monitoring government spending
on key social services are among the priorities of the Jesuit Centre for Theological
Reflection in the capital Lusaka. Founded in 1988, the centre engages in research,
education and advocacy around practical problems of social justice in Zambia and Malawi,
two countries rich in natural and human resources. The centre's director, Jesuit Fr
Leonard Chiti, was one of the participants at a three day Rome conference that concluded
on Wednesday, looking at ways of putting the Church's wealth of social teaching into
practise - he spoke to Philippa Hitchen about prospects for greater equality and development
in his country.....
