It’s a visit many thought would never happen, but later on Tuesday Britain’s Queen
Elizabeth will touch down in the Irish capital Dublin in an historic four day state
visit amid tight security. The visit itself is being billed as one of reconciliation
and one designed to show that a new chapter really has been opened in relations between
the two countries.
The peace process in Northern Ireland has made this trip
by the Queen possible, but it is still not without it’s controversies.
The
monarch is arriving on the 37th anniversary of the Dublin Monaghan bombings
the single bloodiest day in a three-decade sectarian battle over Northern Ireland.
But
despite this many Irish people are hoping that this visit will show Ireland off in
a positive light following the recent economic beating the country has taken.
Although
the Queen Elizabeth will not be doing any public walkabouts, she will however, get
a chance to sample the country’s culture and heritage.
There will be a visit
to Ireland’s most famous university, Trinity College. On the agenda will also be the
Rock of Cashel in Tipperary, as well as the National Stud in Co Kildare.
And
there will even be a stop to the home of the Black Stuff, the Guinness Storehouse
in Dublin. Listen
