Ongoing tribal and ethnic violence is threatening to ruin southern Sudan’s bid to
become the world’s newest country even before their vote for independence takes effect
in July. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Sister Philomena Ani’isa serves as a midwife
and a Counselor at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Mapuordit in southern Sudan – one of
the areas most affected by the fighting. She says people want to see peace re-established.
"There is a great deal of fear," among the local people, she says, adding that soldiers
