Bloggers hold "Pub Meeting" after Vatican Blogging event
The first ever meeting for Catholic bloggers was held on Monday in the Vatican. The
first ever after-party for a Vatican blogger meeting was held Tuesday afternoon at
an Irish Pub in Rome. Which is typical of bloggers. The second event was organized
by Hilary White, whose blog is called “Orwell’s Picnic”.
White attended the
Vatican meeting, which was jointly organized by the Pontifical Councils for Culture
and for Social Communications and was attended by 150 bloggers from around the world.
White organized the party at the pub so bloggers not at the Vatican meeting could
find out what happened, and meet one another.
“I was reading about this Vatican
thing, and it suddenly popped into my mind, I thought they are all going to be coming
into this thing, lets get together at the pub, and then we can gossip, which is what
we like to do,” she said. As for the “official” meeting on Monday, White said the
atmosphere was unexpected.
“It was actually fun. I was not expecting the Vatican
to be able to provide fun. Information, useful information, all of those staid and
grown-up things, but fun I was not expecting,” she told Vatican Radio. “When you
meet someone who is keen on what you do, you can really tell. It made for a very
friendly environment.”
