Pope Benedict receives Polish president

(May 02, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Monday received in a private audience Polish president Bronisław Komorowski, who had come to Rome for Sunday’s beatification of his countryman Pope John Paul II. President Komorowski met Pope Benedict to thank him on behalf of the Polish people for declaring the Polish Pope Blessed. Pope Benedict and the Polish president acknowledged that the Church’s newest Blessed had been a great turning point not only in Poland but also in the entire world. The two leaders underscored that Pope John Paul’s teachings and actions in favour of the dignity of the person and the inviolability of human life are still relevant and far-reaching.
