It is one of the lasting legacies of Pope John Paul's long pontificate: the so-called 'JPII generation' of young Catholics growing up in the 1980's and 1990's who were irresistibly drawn to the message of the charismatic and meda savvy pontiff.
In the mid 1980's he began the tradition of World Youth Days, a global event that has gathered pace as it moves from one continent to the next, helping young men and women to rediscover the universal dimension of their faith.
