A week after Easter, Pope John Paul II will be beatified. As part of an ongoing series,
we are looking at some personal reminisces of the late pontiff. Kishore Jayabalan
worked for both the office of the Permanent Observer to the Holy See at the United
Nations, and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace here in Rome. But his
first encounter with Pope John Paul II was during the Easter Vigil in 1996, when he
