Indian President’s condolence message for Cardinal Vithayathil
(April 05, 2011) India’s President Pratibha Patil offered her condolences on hearing of the death of Indian Cardinal Mar Varky Vithayathil, head of the Syro-Malabar Church, who passed away on Friday. The President’s message dated 1st April was addressed to Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai and President of CBCI, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India. President Patil’s message read “ I am deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey them to the members of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, particularly to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.
