Vatican launches Special fund to help Japan’s fishing communities
(March 23,2011) Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant
People on Wednesday launched a special fund to help fisherman and their families
affected by the recent disastrous tsumani and earthquake in northern Japan. The
Pontifical Council which is responsible for the overall direction of the Apostleship
of the Sea, called on bishops, priests, religious and lay people engaged in the Apostolate,
to pay a donation to the Special Fund of the Sea, created for the purpose of rehabilitating
Japan’s fishing communities. The funds collected will be sent directly to Japan’s
Apostleship of the Sea . The National Director, Soon-Ho Kim, under the supervision
of Bishop Michael Goro Matsuura, has assumed responsibility for coordinating this
project.
