Nuncio praises Japanese quake response

We reached the Apostolic Nuncio to Japan, Archbishop Alberto Bottari de Castello, shortly after the quake struck the island nation Friday. He had prayerful praise for the response of the Japanese people.

“Certainly, there is an esprit among the people,” he said, “indeed, all Japanese are required to participate in [earthquake] drills. The Church, too, does her part, and feels herself called to do all she can.” The Nuncio went on to explain that in Tokyo, first responders went into action instantly. “[Their] organisation worked well,” said the Nuncio. “One truly feels what one is before nature and before the Lord,” he said, “and we thank the Lord, that Japan took steps to prepare.” Listen: RealAudioMP3
