Spiritual preparation begins for Macao delegation for WYD in Madrid
(February 22, 2011) Spiritual preparations for World Youth Day, WYD, to be held in
the Spanish capital of Madrid in August, have already begun in some dioceses. According
to information provided by the Centre for Youth Ministry of the Diocese of Macao,
the first course was held on February 12 and 13 at St Elizabeth Centre for Spirituality.
It was led by Fr Valnei Pedro Reghelin, a Comboni missionary, who is also the spiritual
director of the diocesan delegation, composed of 45 members. The next event is scheduled
for 12 March in the parish of St Joseph. The theme of WYD is “Rooted and grounded
in Him, firm in the faith” The site of the Centre for Youth Ministry in the Diocese
of Macao, also offers the complete information with a link to the official website
for WYD. Aware of the need to renew pastoral youth ministry, Bishop Arquimínio Rodrigues
da Costa, then Bishop of the Diocese of Macao, established the Centre for Youth Ministry
for the Diocese on 28 November, 1976. The aim of the Centre is to offer opportunities
for formation and youth development, in keeping with the teachings of Jesus, so
they can know themselves and appreciate others, and be worthy witnesses of the Lord.
