Pope to make pastoral visit to two Italian cities in May
(February 15, 2001) Pope Benedict XVI will make a two-day pastoral visit to two
Italian cities in May. Departing from Rome’s Ciampino Airport on May 7th
afternoon, he will first visit Aquileia in the Friuli-Venezia region in north
eastern Italy, where he will address the citizens in the city’s main square, address
a meeting in the city’s Basilica and then leave the same evening for Venice in the
nearby Veneto Region. Here, the Pope will address the citizen’s in St. Mark’s Square
and venerate the relics in St. Mark’s Basilica. On Sunday morning, May 8, the Pope
will leave for the nearby city of Mestre, where he will celebrate an open air Mass
in the city’s park, recite the Regina Coeli and give his blessing. Pope Benedict will
then return to Venice, where after lunch with the Bishops, he will hold a meeting
in St. Mark’s Basilica closing the diocesan pastoral visit .
