Pope Benedict XVI addresses the Emmanuel Community

(February 03, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI while addressing the Emmanuel Community in Rome on Thursday on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the death of their founder, Pierre Goursat, said that “A truly Eucharistic life is a life mission. In a world often confused and searching for new reasons to live, the light of Christ must be borne for all. Be among men and women of today's ardent missionaries of the Gospel, sustained by a life completely taken up by Christ. Be eager to proclaim the Word of God.” The Emmanuel Community is an International Public Association of the Faithful of pontifical right under Canon Law approved by the Pontifical Council for the Laity on December 8, 1992. This Community has 8000 members in 57 countries and has the mission to offer a path to its members to answer God's call to holiness and proclaim Christ in today's world. The Pontiff added that in the spirit of their own charisma he is inviting them to deepen their spiritual life by giving importance to a personal encounter with Christ, Emmanuel, God with us, to let them be transformed into a passionate desire of the mission. In the Eucharist the Pope said that they will find the source of all their commitments to follow Christ, and in their worship they will cleanse their outlook on life in the world. Stressing the need to proclaim the Word of God today, Pope Benedict said that this announcement is particularly acute in families, so often fragmented among young and among intellectuals. He called on them to make their contribution to renew within the apostolic dynamism of the parishes, in developing their spiritual guidance and working as missionaries. Finally the Pope invited them to live an authentic communion among its members and to renew their commitment to remain ardent Disciples of Christ in faithfulness to the Church and its Pastors.
