Pope appoints Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan


(February 02, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday appointed Venezuelan Mons. Edgar Pena Parra as Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan. Born 6th March, 1960 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, he was ordained priest 23rd August 1985. He will be consecrated bishop on Saturday (5 February) by Pope Benedict in Rome’s St. Peter’s Basilica, along with four other prelates and will be given the rank of archbishop.
A graduate in Canon Law, Mons. Parra entered Holy See’s diplomatic service 1st April 1993. He is fluent in several languages, including English, French, Spanish and Russian.
The previous Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan, Filipino Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana was transferred to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in November 2010.
