The 2nd Continental Latin American Vocations Conference opened Monday in
Costa Rica, and is taking place nearly 17 years after the first Congress organized
by the Holy See, in close collaboration with the Latin American Episcopal Council
and the Latin American Confederation of Religious.
In his Message to participants,
which was released on Tuesday, Pope Benedict XVI noted that the present Congress builds
both on its predecessor event and on the work of the recent CELAM conference in Apareceida,
which the Pope himself attended.
The Holy Father writes, “The great task of
evangelization requires an increasing number of people who respond generously to God's
call and dedicate their entire lives to the cause of the Gospel,”
The Pope
continues, saying, “A more incisive missionary activity brings precious fruit: both
a strengthening of the Christian life in general, and the increase of vocations to
special consecration,” adding, that an abundance of vocations is an eloquent sign
of ecclesial vitality, as well as the strong life of faith by all members of the People
of God.
The 2nd Continental Latin American Congress on Vocations
is underway in Cartago, Costa Rica, and runs through the 5th of February.
