Pope condemns bomb attack at Moscow airport prays for victims
(January 25, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow for the
victims of the terrorist attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport that
claimed some 35 lives and injured about 180 persons. The Pontiff also strongly condemned
the grave violent act. The Pope’s condolence message was sent by Vatican Secretary
of State, Cardinal Tarciscio Bertione to the President of the Russian Federation
Dimitry Medvedev. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast at the airport
but Russia’s President called it a terrorist attack and immediately tightened security
at Moscow’s two other commercial airports. The Pope’s condolence message also
expressed his spiritual nearness and prayers to all those suffering the loss of their
dear ones and his solidarity to the Russian Federation.
