Postage stamp to commemorate Indian Catholic periodical
(January 17, 2011) The Department of Posts of the Indian government issued a commemorative
postage stamp on Saturday, to mark one hundred years of publication of the Gujarati
Catholic Periodical ‘DOOT’. The stamp was unveiled at a public function on Saturday
by Smt. Humera Ahmed, the Chief Post Master General of Gujarat at St. Xavier’s School,
Ahmedabad. ‘DOOT’, meaning messenger, had it’s humble beginnings in Mumbai in 1911,
and today serves over a large segment of society, across diverse religious and cultural
backgrounds, in different parts of India and abroad. Today it is the second oldest
Gujarati periodical in the country. Published and printed from Anand, Gujarat, the
monthly magazine covers a variety of issues and topics pertaining to the society like
‘Gandhian thoughts’, ‘Corporal Punishment for Children ’ and ‘Role of Women in Today’s
India’, to name a few.
