Listen to our dramatised story of Thomas Becket, the 12th century Archbishop
of Canterbury who was stabbed to death in his cathedral and whose feast day we mark
on December 29th, the date of his martyrdom. It raccounts the famous quarrel between
Thomas and King Henry II, because of the encroachment of the Crown on Church rights.
A quarrel that prompted the king to make his famous outburst: "what a pack of fools
and cowards I've nourished in my house, will not one of them avenge me of this turbulent
