As we approach Christmas why not turn our thoughts to those who are locked up behind
prison bars. While we may find it tough to imagine what this festive season can
be like for them what we can do is find out more about them … It’s what Emer McCarthy
did when she picked up the phone and spoke to the chaplain of Arbour Hill Prison in
Dublin , Fr Ciaron Enright. Asking him to share with us a behind the bars look at
Christmas , beginning with Advent , the season of hope .. "...You do sense a great
weight in the prison on Christmas eve and Christmas day , there's a very palpable
sense of sadness and loss..so many men have very mixed memories of Christmas growing
up ..also what you'll notice at Christmas is people trying to help each other throught
