Christmas in Dublin...behind bars

As we approach Christmas why not turn our thoughts to those who are locked up behind prison bars. While we may find it tough to imagine what this festive season can be like for them what we can do is find out more about them …
It’s what Emer McCarthy did when she picked up the phone and spoke to the chaplain of Arbour Hill Prison in Dublin , Fr Ciaron Enright. Asking him to share with us a behind the bars look at Christmas , beginning with Advent , the season of hope ..
"...You do sense a great weight in the prison on Christmas eve and Christmas day , there's a very palpable sense of sadness and loss..so many men have very mixed memories of Christmas growing up ..also what you'll notice at Christmas is people trying to help each other throught it ..."
