Bomb in a church in Central Java, Archbishop calls for calm
(December 10, 2010) An archbishop has appealed for calm after recent bomb attacks
on Christian places of worship in Indonesia. Archbishop Johannes Pujasumarta of Semarang
called the entire Catholic community to remain calm after two bombs were exploded
on Tuesday in Christ the King Church in the district of Gawok in Central Java. The
explosives were placed in two milk cans, along with nails and small stones. The attack
is the latest in a series of attacks on Christian places of worship. On Sunday a
letter bomb was found in the Protestant church in Muria Indonesia in Surakarta, shortly
before the service began; and on Dec. 1, an attempt was foiled near the shrine of
the Sendand Sriningsih Virgin Mary. Earlier in October, a letter bomb was found in
a Protestant church in GKJ Gebyog in Kartasura.
