Pope Benedict XVI Appoints Coadjutor Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Dhaka,
(November 25, 2010) Pope Benedict XVI appointed on Thursday, November 25th
the Holy Cross Bishop Patrick D'Rozario from the Diocese of Chittagong, as the new
Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dhaka, in Bangladesh. A coadjutor Archbishop,
unlike an auxiliary has the right of succession after the retirement or death of the
existing prelate. Bishop Patrick D’Rozario was born in 1943 in Padrishibpur, Bangladesh.
He joined the Congregation of Holy Cross and became professed member in 1962 and was
ordained priest in 1972. On the 21st of May 1990 he was appointed Bishop of Rajshahi,
Bangladesh. On the 3rd February 1995 he was appointed Bishop of Chittagong. The Archdiocese
of Dhaka has 80 thousand Catholics out of a population of 30 million. It has 20 parishes,
108 priests and 700 religious men and women working there.
