Author Amy Welborn shares her first impressions of Light of the World
A freelance Catholic speaker and writer, Amy Welborn is the author of several books,
including, most recently, Come Meet Jesus: an invitation from Pope Benedict XVI,
which hit bookstores earlier this year. She spoke with Vatican Radio’s Chris Altieri,
who asked her to share some of her impressions of Light of the World, saying
she was most struck by what the book revealed about the Pope’s spirituality:
’How
does the Pope pray?’ [interviewer Peter Seewald] asked him, and the Holy Father goes
through his routine, and talks about all the different ways in which he prays, which
are all very simple – ways that any of us could pray. Welborn went on to say the glimpse
into the Holy Father’s prayer life is a cause for hope, and something to which she
will be returning.
Welborn also said she enjoyed the candor, even the bluntness,
of the Pope's responses to Seewald's probing questions. "I really can't think of a
major issue of the past five years that isn't covered in the book," said Welborn.
The book-length interview of Pope Benedict XVI with Peter Seewald, is published
in English as Light of the World: the Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times.
