Message of Pope Benedict XVI to the Plenary Session of the Pontifical Council for
Justice and Peace
Message of Pope Benedict XVI to the Plenary Session of the Pontifical Council for
Justice and Peace SEDOC My hope is that the Pontifical Council for Justice and
Peace will continue in its work to help the church community and all its components.
The Department therefore must continue this work not only in developing more new updates
of the Social Doctrine of the Church, but also in testing, with the method of discernment,
living in communion with Jesus Christ and among ourselves, a message from Pope Benedict
XVI said. This was read at the Twenty Sixth Plenary session of the Pontifical Council
for Justice and Peace, being held in Rome from November 4th to 5th.
The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace is a Dicastery of the Roman Curia dedicated
to "action-oriented studies" for the international promotion of justice, peace, and
human rights from the perspective of the Roman Catholic Church. The Pontiff’s message
further said that the life of communities and individual believers, fuelled by continued
meditation on the Word of God, by regular participation in the sacraments and the
communion with the wisdom that comes from above, grows in its ability towards the
renewal of building culture and faith. The ethos of the people can now enjoy a true
and solid foundation, which reinforces the social consensus rules of procedure and
substance. Further, the Church's social doctrine is it the essential reference for
planning and social action of the lay faithful, as well as for their spiritual life,
which feeds and fits into the ecclesial communion: communion of love and truth, a
communion in mission. The Pope then directed them to the task of preparing the lay
faithful able to devote them to the common good, and pastors who, with their ministry
and charism, contribute to the building of life according to the Gospel.
