Pope will use Latin in liturgies during visit to Great Britain
(Sept.08,2010) During his visit to Great Britain, Pope Benedict XVI will use Latin
in celebrating Mass “to emphasize the universality of the faith and the continuity
of the Church,” the director of papal liturgies has announced. Msgr. Guido Marini
told the Scottish newspaper - “The Herald “that the Pope will use Latin for the Preface
and the Eucharistic Prayer, at each Mass he celebrates during his September 16 -19
visit to England and Scotland. The Canon is the most significant part of the Mass,
as it both precedes and follows the Consecration. A spokesman for the Glasgow
archdiocese welcomed the use of Latin, saying that it “may reawaken a renewed interest
in the Church’s traditional music forms.”
