(Sept.07,2010) “A new era of mutual respect and profound education for dialogue between
believers of different religions,” was wished for to all Muslims at the end of Ramadan
by Italian Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, Archbishop of Milan. The Cardinal’s traditional
message addressed to “my dear Muslim friends” was sent on the Feast of “Id al-Fitr”
which marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period during which, Muslims worldwide
fast and pray from dawn to dusk. The condemnation of the instrumental use of
religion for division and violence, was the focus of the Cardinal’s message. “We
do not want to forget the pain of so many of our brothers and sisters, who are victims
of hate campaigns, that have nothing to do with expressions of true faith,” said the
prelate’s message. “Killing, invoking the name of God is the greatest sin against
God and the most absurd crime against Humanity” said Cardinal Tettamanzi’s message
to Muslims. “Tragedies that have been perpetuated among us for centuries, must be
wiped out by a new season of mutual respect and shared commitment for the growth
of a humanity reconciled in God”, said the Cardinal’s message for Ramadan, encouraging
all to work together to educate through dialogue for peace and harmony .
