International Year of Youth Launched in Archdiocese of Bangalore

(August 23, 2010) All youth irrespective of caste, colour or creed should join hands and shine bright to bring warmth and love to the world, said Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras of Bangalore. He was speaking after formally inaugurating the International Year of Youth being observed under the auspices of Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Bangalore in the Bangalore Archdiocese at a colourful ceremony at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral. The Archbishop exhorted all youth to unite and work to uplift themselves through the path of service and reach out to the downtrodden. Youth director Fr Divya Paul presented the theme and the logo amidst a pageantry of colour, music and dance depicting the joyous nature of youth, their struggle to remain upbeat and their never dying spirit of life that enables them to reach out to the world with their exuberance. The flag and the banner were unfurled to thunderous applause. The logo of the International Year of Youth, which marks the spirit of creativity and dynamism in youth, was also unveiled on the occasion. The Archbishop invited the youth to be true to the theme adopted for the year, “rise and shine, for a better world.” Fr Divya Paul said that many youth programmes and activities have been planned for the coming year to facilitate and inspire youth to make the world a better place for all.
