Fresh Flooding Forces Pakistanis to Move to Higher Ground
(21 Aug 10 - RV) About 150,000 Pakistanis were forced to move to higher ground as
floodwaters from the freshly swollen Indus River submerged dozens more towns and villages
in the south.
Officials expect the floodwaters nationwide will recede in the
next few days as the last river torrents empty into the Arabian Sea.
But survivors
may find little left when they return home, as the waters have washed away houses,
roads, bridges and crops vital to livelihoods.
Spokesperson for the International
Committee of the Red Cross in Pakistan, Michael O’Brien, spoke with us about their
work amidst continued flooding.
