with the Taizè Community in France and all those involved in the commemoration of
the 5th death anniversary of Brother Roger Schutz, Founder of the community.

to Brother Alois, Prior of the Taizè Community. Brother Roger was killed during evening

year also marks the 70th Anniversary of the Taize Community, which was
founded 20th August, 1940. The double celebration will be marked by a
celebration in Taize on Saturday,Aug.14. The Pope’s message described Brother
Roger as a tireless witness of the Gospel of peace and reconciliation. It said Brother
Roger was a pioneer on the difficult journey towards unity among the disciples of
Christ. 70 years ago, he started a community that continues to draw thousands of
young people from around the world, seeking to give a new meaning to their lives.
The Pope prayed that Brother Roger’s witness of ecumenism and sanctity, may continue
to inspire the path of all towards unity, and that the Taize Community may continue
to grow and radiate his charism, especially among younger generations.
