(Aug.11,2010) In Iraq, Chaldean Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk on the eve of Ramadan
sent a message to the Muslim community. Ramadan, which began on Wednesday, is the
holiest month of Islam, devoted to fasting and prayer. During this period, Muslims
do not eat or drink anything from dawn to dusk. In his message, Archbishop Sako said
"On the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, on behalf of Christians in Kirkuk, I would
like to express our sincere wishes to our Muslim brothers in this month of fasting,
so it may be a special time of prayer and conversion, a time to grow in virtue. Ramadan,
said the prelate’s message,“is also an opportunity to find the courage to forgive
and achieve reconciliation and justice, to heal the wounds of the Iraqi people and
restore peace, security and stability. We hope that very soon a new government is
formed capable of assuming full responsibility; a government for all Iraqis and not
only for some of them. I also ask Christians to respect the feelings of their Muslim
brothers and not eat in public, wear modest clothing and join them in prayers for
peace and stability,” concluded Chaldean Archbishop Sako’s message for Ramadan.
