Pope inaugurates St. Joseph’s fountain in Vatican garden
(July 5, 2010) Pope Benedict XVI on Monday inaugurated a new fountain in the garden
of Vatican City dedicated to his baptism name, Joseph. He said the garden “is a
place that he visits with pleasure to spend a bit of time in prayer and peaceful relaxation.”
Pope Benedict thanked all those who contributed to realizing the fountain which is
the 100th in the garden. The work of Italian artist, Franco Murer ,St. Joseph’s
fountain has six bronze panels depicting various scenes from the life of the foster
father of Jesus. Reflecting briefly on the panels the Holy Father said that the
fountain is a symbolic call to the values of simplicity and humility that are needed
to fulfil God’s will daily – values that have marked the silent but precious life
of the Guardian of the Redeemer. The Pope entrusted to the intercession of St. Joseph
the hopes of the Church and the world. “Together with the Virgin Mary, his spouse,
he always guides my and your journey, so that we can be the joyful instruments of
peace and salvation,” the Pope added.
