greeted the delegation led by the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Antonio Maria Rouco
Varela, saying many young people have their eyes on the beautiful city of Madrid,
and anxiously await the joyful opportunity to listen together to the Word of Christ,
to share the faith that unites them and the desire they have to build a better world.
The Pope invited everyone present to continue to cooperate generously
in the preparations for World Youth Day, which he called a wonderful initiative that
is not simply a mass meeting, but an excellent opportunity for young people the world
over, to be captivated by the love of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Mary, the faithful
friend, the conqueror of sin and death. He who trusts, said Pope Benedict, will
never be disappointed, but find the strength to choose the right path in life.
