(June 15,2010) The Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology has announced surprising
discoveries made by restorers in the Roman Catacombs of St. Tecla, said a communiqué
from Vatican’s Press Office on Tuesday. Recalling the news that appeared a year ago
in Vatican’s newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, concerning the discovery in the Catacombs
of St. Tecla, of the oldest image of St. Paul, the press communiqué said other
images of saints, likewise the oldest of their kind, were brought to light using laser
technology. Vatican’s Press communique said the President of the Pontifical
Commission - Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi will hold a Press Conference June 22
at the Basilica of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, to give details of these important
discoveries. It added that following the news conference, journalists will be accompanied
to the nearby catacombs of St. Tecla to see the discoveries .
